Oostende voor Anker

Also this year we were present at OvA. This time we rowed the Tessa to Oostende from De Haan. It took us 3 hours on Friday against current and wind, and 1 hour and 10 minutes going back on Tuesday, with the current but against the wind.
It got us an 'Image of the week' in the local newspaper :)

Blankenberge Havenfeesten

From this season on we reserved a spot in the Blankenberge harbour. To celebrate this we got the Stella baptised by Neptune!

Zeewijding Wenduine

To start the season we had the Tessa blessed in Wenduine at the Zeewijding. Rowed solo from De Haan to Wenduine and back - luckily the weather was fine.

On Thursday 29 April we tested the brandnew Torqeedo electric motor, the Travel 1003 on the Leie.
This is the newest product in their range and also the most powerful. It produces around 1000W, matching a 2/3 HP combustion engine in thrust.
The test resulted in following numbers:
Tessa - LOA: 6m, beam: 1,2m, weight: 280kg
max speed: 11, 5 km/h, with an 11 km range
cruising speed: 6,5 km/h, with a 23 km range

Arrival of a new project: the Ommelander

The Ommelander was built in 1939, with a teak hull, deck and transom, and oak frames and keel. She has an overall length of 8,10 meter, is 2,30 meter wide, and with a displacement of 4,6 tonnes she's one hell of a project. Expect to see frequent updates!

Starting up the orignal Perkins marine engine of the Stella

After 12 years of storage (outside, under a tarpaulin) we managed to bring the old Perkins back to life. For the first attempt 4 batteries 12V were used, but.. no luck.

So we brought in the mighty Mitsubishi Galant, half the engine's age (20 years) and tried again. We're getting closer..

Friend and ultra-mechanic Emmanuel Dekeyser brings in some engineering magic, and there we go! Champagne! Edelweiss, edelweiss..

The engine runs smoothly, and only a small leakage in the exhaust/manifold appeared......
